IDEAS SOCIETY’S FIRST C.S.R. ACTIVITY AT SHAUKAT KHANUM HOSPITAL P-I

“The power of love to change bodies is legendary, built into folklore, common sense, and everyday experience. Love moves the flesh, it pushes matter around.... Throughout history, “tender loving care” has uniformly been recognized as a valuable element in healing.” Larry Dossey

On Friday, 16th of April 2010, members of Ideas Society along with the society’s patron Prof. Rasheed Khalid, visited the children wards of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital for Cancer. The aim of this visit was to bring back the lost smiles of those innocent flowers, which were fighting with the curse of cancer. The students believed that if they could make even a single child’s day, it was worth the effort.

What they witnessed there was a spell bounding, humbling and life changing experience. The young warriors showed such courage and will power which was unmatched. The Ideas team went to each one of the in-house, outdoor and chemo ward patients. Each one was a totally new experience. The children welcomed the gifts, narrations of fairy tales, face painting and other interactive activities conducted by the students of UCP.

Alisha Fatima celebrated her 2nd birthday with the team, Minha Fatima shared her dream of leaving the hospital as a Super Girl and Hassan Ali very solemnly invited all his “brothers and sisters” back soon for a re-visit.

The very fact that these children were suffering from such a deadly disease, brought tears to many eyes, but all commendations for these little brave hearts who kept smiling nonetheless. The parents of all these children were also monuments of bravery, courage and hope. They believed that they could not direct the wind but they could at least adjust the sails.

Towards the end of this momentous day, on the behalf of Ideas Society, Prof. Rasheed Khalid presented an amount of Rs.34, 600 to Mr. Masrur-ul-Haq Lodhi; Assistant Manager Product and Resource Development.

At the end Ms. Naila Khan Director Marketing and Resource Department, met the students and gave them a short briefing about the history, management and technical working of the hospital.

President Ideas Society Mr. Tahir Mahmood, on behalf of the whole team thanked the hospital administration for their cooperation and commended their remarkable efforts for making such an amazing difference in so many lives.

The day ended with a group photo and the students left with the confidence that “Hope is grief‘s best music.”
